Schools' Head of the River

Schools' Head is over, now the Juniors can all get on with looking forward to the side by side stuff. Thank God, the Winter has dragged a bit and I reckon 2k is less than a third of 6.8k. As for results, well the most outstanding of those was LEH managing to go 2% faster than any of the boys crews and breaking the Champ' Girls record by 23 seconds, and Latymer's girls top 4x went a percent faster than Westminster. This is probably the only place you'll read that as it is highly likely our less than visionary rowing press will focus on the battle between Abingdon, Eton and Shrewsbury. They're boys you see and that means they need more column inches...
Girls warm up, in crew order too!

As for MBC, the boys had to scratch due to injury, which is a shame as MBC won the coxed four last year and could have got a decent result, never mind lads, plenty more interesting stuff coming up. The girls raced in Champ 8's and came in 3rd 9 seconds off Headington who were 34 seconds off LEH, a big margin but the Molesey crew had girls who were racing in J15 8's last year, as they now know, it's a big leap but not one that scares them. Perhaps most pleasing was the girls j16 4+ which got on with it in excellent fashion to come 3rd just 9 seconds off the win.

  1. The British Rowing website has gone with a picture of Abingdon winning the head, impressively predictable. Thankyou
