Hazewinkel 2011, mid-term report

End of day 5 on camp in Hazewinkel, attention to setting the body properly is showing dividends in the paddling now. A strong tail wind on day 2 has dropped off to near perfect rowing conditions and every one as had an opportunity to show what they can do in a single or pair.
The two coxes have been doing an excellent job from the bank, learning about the athletes in the squad and providing them with feedback, technical and 250m times ensuring that the changes made actually improve boat speed.
The athletes are definitely tired but they still manage to respond to the requests made of them both technical and physical. One of the objectives of camp, to increase the level of the athletes' professional approach to training and therefore racing is in evidence not just during sessions but out of the boat too. The athletes' levels of knowledge in their sport were further helped by an excellent Nutrition talk by coach Walczak on the evening of Day 4.
One and a half days of training left, I am looking forward to getting the most out of the athletes over that remaining period and then taking the good work and the ethic that has come with it to Molesey and the races this squad takes on over the coming Summer.
