Busy Weekend

The weekend started with the Elmbridge Sports Awards, held at Rydens School. Jack Shepherd won Youth Personality of the Year, thoroughly deserved following his Silver at the Junior World Championships. Frazer Brent picked up 2nd place in the Senior Personality of the Year for his Bronze medal at the U23 World Championships in the 8, as did the MBC Girls squad in the Youth Team of the Year category, good to see MBC represented so strongly in these awards.
Sunday's girls invitational match gave Latymer, LEH and MBC the chance to race over a time trial or 3, all three clubs tried various combinations and the coaches universally considered it a success, certainly worth building on in the future. Jess Eddie, Senior GB International and Olympian presented Latymer with a well deserved prize for achieving the highest percentage of the day and gave a brief talk that I hope inspired one or two girls to seek great things in this sport.
Year 10 teams from Esher, Salesians and EEHS racing
Not strictly speaking the weekend  but today MBC hosted the North Surrey Schools Year 9 and 10 indoor rowing competition, the main club room saw approximately 75 girls and boys from 5 local schools race individually over 750m and as teams over 1000m, a distance shortened as time ran out. The enthusiasm for racing was great to see, and some tight races occurred. It just might be that one of those present goes on to represent Molesey and Great Britain, that was certainly the hope of at least one of the distinguished onlookers...
